Just how do the Love Island contestants keep their makeup on in the heat?

Unfortunately for us, here in little old England, the only sun we’ve had recently is the one on our television screens at 9pm every night. While we’re watching Love Island and their perfectly made-up faces roam around the pool in the glistening sun, we can’t help but wonder how their makeup hasn’t melted off yet. Thinking back to last summer and the infamous heatwave (which we’re longing for a repeat of), all we can recall is reluctantly wearing the bare minimum so that my products weren’t being wasted on our uncomfortably hot, sweltering faces. We couldn’t think of anything worse than layering on foundation, concealer, and everything else, yet those girls in the villa manage to keep their beauty on point ALL. THE. TIME. Here’s how you can too:

PREP PROPERLY

Prep is key. Make sure your face is completely cleansed and cleaned, rid of any dirt, oil and perspiration. Use a lighter moisturiser than you would in the colder months and then prime. Make sure either your moisturiser or primer has an SPF in it to protect you from inevitable UV rays. Try…

DITCH THE FOUNDATION

Foundation can sometimes feel a little heavy for the heat. As well as being uncomfortable, when you sweat through it, it can end up looking cakey. Trading your beloved foundation for a CC cream or tinted moisturiser will be the best thing you do this summer. They’re lightweight for maximum comfort and they don’t appear to look different once you’ve warmed up. Try…

WATERPROOF YOUR BEAUTY

Making sure your products, especially eye products such as mascara, are waterproof is important. When mascara melts or gets wet it can end up all over our brow arch (we’ve all been there, but it ain’t pretty) so wearing one that is resistant to moisture will prevent that from happening. Try…

SWITCH UP YOUR POWDERS

Powdered products can end up looking streaky when you get hot and bothered in the sunshine. Much like your mascara, you need to sweat-proof your cheeks too. Choosing cream or liquid versions are a perfect alternative to streaky cheeks! Try…

SET IT ALL

Using a setting spray to lock your face down is key, however what type of setting spray you use could be more significant. Even if you love a dewy look, shop a matte spray for the season. While your face may have that eau natural glow, you don’t want to end up making it shiny. A matte setting spray will balance out the moisture so that your face is a safe in between texture. Try…
