Your skin isn’t the only thing that suffers from the cold weather.

We spend the summer months taming our hair from frizzing in the heat and by the time winter comes around we’re completely fed up of caring for our locks so much. However, although this is the case for many, taking care of our hair while it’s so cold outside is actually more important than you think. Here’s why…

The winter weather can be super hard on our precious hair. The cold, dry air; harsh weather conditions like wind, rain and snow; not to mention the dry heat from radiators and heaters, this all contributes to dehydrated hair which is far more prone to breakage than in the warmer months. If your hair is feeling seasonally dry and brittle, we’ve got just the cure for you (and a few top tips).

One of the best things you can do for your hair, come winter or summer, is use a regular hair mask. Just something that is a little extra than your conditioner every now and again will do you wonders. We love L’Occitane’s Aromachologie Repairing Hair Mask and totally trust it to keep our hair in good condition.

This mask will transform dry, damaged hair in just three-minutes. L’Occitane’s new strengthening, shine-boosting formula contains an anti-breakage complex combining five essential oils (ylang-ylang, sweet orange, lavender, geranium and angelica) and plant-derived amino acids to smooth, soften and repair the hair, strand by strand. Enriched with shea butter and sweet almond oil it effectively nourishes, softens and protects dry and damaged hair.

Using this once or twice a week will boost your hair’s health and ultimately prevent it from getting dehydrated. As well as this, there are a few other ways you can ensure that your hair is getting the best treatment this winter.

  • Turn down the heat
Its cold outside and so obviously its tempting to jump in the hottest shower possible. But, this could be causing damage to your hair. Exposing your hair to hot water can strip your hair of any natural moisture. Our tips? If you really want that boiling hot shower, use a shower cap to protect your locks.
  • Stay away from stylers
We know, it’s Christmas, there are so many celebrations to be had. This means that hair styling is inevitable. But apart from those particular events where you’re getting dressed up, keep the hair straighteners in your drawer. Adding electric heat to your already dehydrated hair won’t help at all!
  • Change your hair-washing habits
We all know that washing our hair every day of the week is bad for us, but in winter especially, we need all the natural oils our hair can get. Try savouring your hair-washes for only once or twice a week. Plus, if you’re guilty of skipping on the conditioner, make a conscious effort not to do this.

Keep your hair fully protected all year round, but very importantly throughout winter. Let us know your tips and tricks for ensuring your hair is hydrated, shiny and full of life this time of year!
