Aromatherapy Associates are masters of – you guessed it – aromatherapy, using the power of essential oils to improve our wellbeing through the sense of smell.
The term aromatherapy was first coined by French perfumer and chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé in 1937 but the practice has been used in ancient cultures for thousands of years. It’s when aromatic plant extracts (essential oils) are used to heal, calm, relax and de-stress, which is why essential oils are so important in fragrance and beauty.
As it’s Stress Awareness Month this month, we wanted to shine a light on Aromatherapy Associates and the transformative nature of their products. Aromatherapy may be something commonly thought of as exclusive to spas but this brand is one making it possible to feel the same benefits at home.
Founders Geraldine Howard and Sue Beechey became fascinated with the breakthrough of aromatherapy and, in 1985, created the company as a way to tell people about it. Fast forward 36 years and their master blends are still finding new audiences to help. If you’re new to the world of aromatherapy and essential oils, don’t worry. Aromatherapy Associates offers the products already in your everyday life and there’s several targeted ranges to help you choose the right ones for your specific needs. Relax? Revive? De-stress? They’ve got you covered.
We’re talking body oils, bath oils, shower oils, body creams, face masks, Eau De Parfums – Aromatherapy Associates has expanded from its humble origins to demonstrate the importance and possibilities of essential oils in skincare, body care and fragrance. Shortcut answer: They’re endless!
With this month’s focus on de-stressing our minds and bodies, we put the De-Stress and Deep Relax ranges to the test to find how their essential oil blends improve wellbeing in addition to their physical benefits.
Aromatherapy Associates created the De-Stress collection specifically to help calm and refocus the mind, hailing it ‘aromatherapy for anxiety, stress and sore muscles.’ The De-Stress Muscle blend was crafted to soothe tired muscles and limbs, making it the perfect antidote for post-exercise strain and tense muscles for those spending long hours at your desk.
The blend of Rosemary, Black Pepper, Lavender and Ginger warm together to ease tension. With the Muscle Gel (150ml, normally £28.00 but currently reduced to £21.00!), you should massage the oil blend directly over your aching muscles and joints at least twice a day. If you’re working out, we recommend applying before and after for maximum benefit. If you’re sitting on one position all day long, take a few minutes to massage the gel to boost your circulation.
The blend of fragrant Frankincense, Petitgrain and Wild Camomile makes for the most luxurious atmosphere that will transform your average shower into a luxurious moment of true self-care. The De-Stress Shower Oil (250ml, £26.00) and De-Stress Body Oil (100ml, £47.00) will enrichen your routine in every way, providing long-lasting moisture for the skin and – even more importantly – bringing a peaceful aroma to reset the mind.
We all know how important consistent, good sleep is for our health and stress levels, which is why Aromatherapy Associates crafted the award-winning Deep Relax collection to bring us natural sleep remedies.
Made for those who struggle to get to sleep and/or stay asleep, the Deep Relax blend combines the tranquillity of Vetivert, the comfort of Sandalwood, and the soothing of Camomile to create a grounding atmosphere that will bring you to peace and restore your sleep after one try. Honestly, if we were told it was sleep hypnosis bottled up, we’d believe you.
The three essential oils work together to calm your mind and relieve your body of tension so you can have an uninterrupted sleep. To settle down after a long day, unwind with the help of the Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil (100ml, £69.00). A little goes a long way with this oil as you only need to put one capful into cupped hands, slowly breathe in the aromas then massage it on to your torso before stepping into the bath (or shower, but we highly recommend this for the bath of a lifetime). After that, the essential oils will do the work for you.
Invest in your wellbeing and make time for indulgent moments of undisturbed self-care to relax your body and mind. As we said before, these are only but a few of Aromatherapy Associates products available at Beauty at The Fragrance Shop, though if you’re looking specifically to de-stress then it’s the perfect place to start your journey.
