Happy Valentine’s Day! If you’re sick of all the soppy romance, do we have some stories for you.

We’ve been creating the ultimate guide to Valentine’s Day, complete with gift guides, party planning and even a date night recipe. On the big day, however, we’ve trawled the Ect office for the worst date story and we’re positively spoilt for choice.

I fancied someone who worked in a shop…

I was so nervous to ask her out, I ended up pointing to her with finger guns and saying ‘do you want to get a drink sometime?’ Surprisingly, she said yes!

I went on date and he was awful…

I’d ask him a question- he’d answer it but would never ask me anything! Every conversation I’d try to start, he’d end with a really blunt answer. It wasn’t that I’d said something wrong, he was like that from the second I sat down in front of him. It got to the point where I’d asked him every question I could possibly think of (‘Do you have siblings? What does your family do? Hobbies? Favourite Food?’) I ended up asking him if he was excited for Christmas…at the start of November. Needless to say, I never saw him again.

A few weeks after my relationship ended…

I was asked out to dinner by a new guy. We went to one of those restaurants with long tables that you share with other diners. Not too long after we sat down, we were joined by two other people…my ex and his new girlfriend! It would only be a matter of time before they spotted me so I faked an emergency and texted my date from the toilets. We got out of there quickly.

I was at a restaurant with a guy…

I ordered a cocktail and he remarked that he hadn’t drunk any alcohol in about four years. He ordered one for himself, and before I could worry that I’d made him go back to a bad habit, he said ‘because I was in prison.’ I’m not one to judge but it gave me a bit of an ick so I researched him later and found that he’d been put away for a really dangerous crime! Last I heard, he was on the run from the police. Looks like my intuition was right.

He asked me out for Valentine’s Day…

He hadn’t booked anywhere for dinner and, surprise surprise, a lot of restaurants were all booked up. We went to ten different places before we found somewhere to eat. He then asked the waiter if we could share a set menu so it’d be cheaper! They weren’t on board so I ended up paying for my own meal and going home.

I was once at a bar with a girl I had just started seeing…

and I asked her if she wanted another drink. The music must have been really loud because she thought I’d asked her to be my girlfriend! It was so awkward, I went along with it. Thankfully, we didn’t last too long after that…
