Find the perfect fragrance, it’s not as hard as it seems.
How to find the perfect fragrance for your Valentine, it might take a little bit of homework, but don’t stress, it will be worth it.
If you know your recipient inside-out, then this should be easy. If you don’t, then it’s the perfect way to get to know them a little better, and get them a great gift in the meantime. Finding the perfect fragrance for your Valentine doesn’t need to be a chore, it’s actually pretty easy if you plan ahead and give yourself enough time to go out and find one. These are our top tips on how to gift a fragrance that they’ll love forever.
Do your research
Think about your recipients daily habits and interests. Consider whether they prefer sweets over chocolate, hot or mild foods, even whether they prefer strong coffee or perhaps a milky tea. All of these things reveal traits about this person which you can use to shop the perfect scent. For example, if they do like a strong black coffee over a weaker, milky tea, you should probably gift an Eau de Parfum which is more intense and bold instead of a delicate Eau de Toilette.
Also consider what they do on a regular basis. If they’re not much of a party-person and prefer to wear their perfume during the day, then opt for something less seductive and go for a fragrance which is a bit fresher. Once you’ve noted a few of these things down, take it into one of our in-store fragrance experts and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction and provide some suggestions for you to choose from so that you go home with the perfect fragrance for your Valentine.
Take advantage of our blotters
If you’re giving your other half a fragrance, you should probably ensure that you like it too. After all, you will probably be spending a lot of time with them and it would be no good if you couldn’t stand to be within a 2 metre radius of them due to the fragrance they’re wearing. Our solution? Head to one of our stores and use our blotters. Spray them with a handful of options (writing the fragrance on each one could help you remember which is which), take them away and try them again later.
Fragrance smells different on everyone, but a blotter will give you a pretty good idea of how it will be on them. Scents also smell different from the moment you spray it and an hour later, which is why it’s important to go back and make sure you still like that blotter you chose earlier on.
Go for a classic
If you’re truly struggling, or perhaps you just don’t know your Valentine very well (yet), then the safest thing to do is opt for a classic. If you’re still unsure of what they are, we have dedicated collections of classic perfumes for women and classic aftershaves for men. They’re full of brands like Calvin Klein, Paco Rabanne, Jimmy Choo and Dior, so you’ll be sure to find something they’ll love.
A fail-safe option that we just can’t argue with.
Consider the whole package
While you shouldn’t shop perfumes and aftershaves just because of what the bottle looks like, sometimes the packaging can help us decide what to gift someone else. If their general style is very minimalist and you’re stuck between a fragrance which is enveloped in a chic, plain bottle, or a scent that comes in an extremely bright and dazzling flacon, then your mind should easily be made up.
It’s not about choosing the scent based on the bottle, but it’s knowing what your recipient is more likely to enjoy visually and even perhaps leave out on display in their home. It can make all the difference.
