Struggle to get enough shut-eye at night? Try these top-tips and make sure that you sleep better from now on.

Does your evening routine reflect how well or badly you sleep? It certainly could. That’s why we need to be mindful about how we spend the hours before we go to bed. There are a few things you can do to make your sleep more peaceful and your morning’s easier, and they’re not really too much to ask. Easily done, little effort things to make you life a little better, it’s the least you deserve.

Prep your morning

Waking up in the morning and having to think about what to wear that day, then make your lunch and pack your gym bag could probably cause some stress.

Hang up the clothes you plan on wearing the next day (even get out your undies if you want to be super prepared). Make sure your lunch is made and popped away in the fridge so that it’s fresh for the day after – again, if you’re feeling really prepared you can always meal prep and make your lunched for a few days. Finally, make sure anything you need is in or next to your bag. There’s no worse feeling than running around trying to find those papers you need for your morning meeting and unsuccessfully stressing out.

Prepare and sleep well knowing that your morning routine will be a walk in the park.

Tidy up

There’s nothing worse than lying in your nice, cosy bed, and looking around to find piles of clothes on the floor, or that ever-growing stack of magazines on the side that you just can’t part with (or seem to put away), yet. Definitely don’t leave the dishes dirty in the kitchen sink, there’s no regret like waking up in the morning to the poignant smell of last night’s dinner lingering while you’re struggling to make your morning coffee.

Make sure your surroundings are tidy. Tidy mind, tidier head. While you might be going over that stupid thing you said to that guy you liked seven years ago, at least it won’t be stressing over the fact that you’ve got to sort your bedroom/living room/

Read, literally anything

Whether you’re a bookworm or not, there are still ways to wind down with something to read before you sleep. Grab a newspaper or your favourite magazine and even if you just flick through the pages and admire the imagery, it’s better than scrolling aimlessly through your Twitter feed with squinty eyes in the dark, trust us.

Lay off caffeine and alcohol

Try not to have any caffeinated tea, coffee or any kind of alcohol before you head to bed. This will interrupt your sleep and the quality of rest might not be as good as you need it to be. If you love a warm drink before bed, there’s so many different decaffeinated teas that you can try, even some sleep-aiding ones that have ingredients like lavender and chamomile in to help you drift off into a deep sleep.

Meditate

Whether you do it by yourself of with the help of an app, it’s widely known that regular meditation can help with a lot of things, not just sleep. But it most definitely can help you get the shut-eye you need. It helps to turn your brain off a little bit while you unwind, which will help your overall sleep quality and general wellbeing. Getting into the habit of this will truly help your mind get some rest.

Give yourself a massage

Using our Gua Sha or Jade Roller give your face a workout. While that might sound strenuous, it’s really not, and you can do it from the comfort of your own bed and it will send you to sleep feeling refreshing and fabulous. See how to make the most out of your Oilixia Gua Sha Tool here.
