Le Beau and La Belle are the products of Jean Paul Gaultier and his garden, here’s all you need to know.
Gaultier’s Garden is a place we’d like to visit. Its metaphorical, of course, but its still a place we’d like to be. The story that comes with La Belle and Le Beau fragrances is a beautiful one. As it’s told, on the first day Jean Paul Gaultier created an enchanting garden. This garden was magical, easy-going and full of adventure. On the second day, he created La Belle and Le Beau, two new fragrances that were born from his Classique and Le Mâle scents. On the third day he created sins, and on the fourth day he rested.
This garden was a party (and yes, we definitely want an invite!), it was full of delight and discovery. So now you might be wondering, what are these two new delectable fragrances actually about? Well, we’ve got the answers.
What did Jean Paul Gaultier make them smell like?
La Belle, Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfume for women opens up with the sweet juice of a fruity pair. In the heart is notes of vetiver, and the base features the divine smell of comforting, fresh vanilla.
Le Beau, the aftershave for men is a luscious combination of relaxing coconut wood, bergamot and tonka bean which adds a refreshing touch.
How long do the scents last?
La Belle perfume is an Eau de Parfum (EDP) and Le Beau is an Eau de Toilette (EDT), so they’re a little different in terms of concentration. Concentration refers to how strong a fragrance is, the more concentrated it is, the more perfume oil it contains and less alcohol. This also defines how long a scent lasts. An EDP has between 12% and 18% concentration and will generally last between four and five hours. EDT’s are lower in concentration, around 8-12%, and tend to last about three to four hours.
So, they should last you all day or night, depending on when you want to wear them. If you feel like you need a top-up throughout, why not get yourselves one of our essential fragrance accessories, a Twist & Spritz, so that you can spritz on the go whenever you want.

What does vetiver smell like?
Vetiver is a complex earthy scent. It comes from a bunchgrass plant which is native to India and features a tall stem with quite rigid leaves. It’s dry, woody, leathery aroma has been compared to freshly cut grass on a warm summer’s day.
Are they his and hers fragrances?
In the story of Gaultier’s Garden, it is known that as these fragrances were separately created, they came together to compliment each other and go well together. Deliberate, it might have be, they look and smell divine together. We’d 100% getting one for you and a loved one.
Why are they different from other Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances?
As we mentioned, Jean Paul Gaultier created these from his classic scents, La Mâle and Classique, however there are huge differences. These new scents were a big step out for the brand. The fruity scent of pear in at the forefront of La Belle is ultimately fresher than the gourmand scent that is signature to Jean Paul Gaultier. The comparison between Le Mâle and Le Beau lies heavily in the note of coconut. It adds depth and warmth to the modern, masculine scent.
