We tried one of our bestselling, trend-lead skincare tools: Olixa’s Rose Quartz Gua Sha.
When Olixa’s Rose Quartz Gua Sha Tool first launched on Beauty at The Fragrance Shop, it sold out almost straight away. That was when we knew we were in for an absolute skincare treat and were eager to find out more. This luxurious baby pink, marble-like tool that claims to do wonders to the blood flow in our cheeks and so we weren’t going to pass up the opportunity to try it.
What it is:
A Gua Sha is an ancient beauty tool that was designed to be pulled across the skin in order to stimulate micro-circulation, increase blood flow around the skin and help lymphatic drainage. By using one of these regularly, it can help to tone up the skin, increase a firmer and more lifted sensation as well as draining away puffiness and smoothing out the appearance of any fine lines and wrinkles.
How to use it:
- Cleanse your skin and apply a facial oil.
- Start with one side of the face, apply 3-5 strokes per area and once you have finished one side of the face, move onto the other side.
- Neck: use the long flat edge of the Gua Sha and pull it upwards to the jawline. This will encourage a fresh flow of blood to the face ready to start the treatment. Jawline: use the small round indents and pull the Gua Sha along the jaw, moving from the chin to the ear.
- Cheeks: use the long flat edge and pull the Gua Sha from the nose to the ear.
- Undereye: use the small round edge and press it flat under your eye. Use a gentle rolling and pumping action, moving from the inner eye to the outer eye.
- Brow: use the serrated edge and pull from the inside brow to the outside.
- Forehead: use the serrated edge, hold the tool at a perpendicular angle to the skin and rub the pointed edge vertically across any forehead lines.
- Hairline: use the serrated edge and comb through the hairline.
- Finish by pulling the long flat edge down the neck, under the ears, to encourage lymphatic drainage

Now I’d love to invest in a fully-fledged, pamper-ful life of Face Gym, acupuncture, facials and much more, but the reality is not so favourable (i.e. my bank account). So, when tools appear that offer similar benefits to said pampering for a fraction of the price, I’m intrigued…
For £20 you have your very own Rose Quartz Gua Sha. Associated generally with traditional Chinese medicine (the Gua Sha) and a healer of the Heart (the Rose Quartz), a combination of both is said to retain youth and beauty. Using the Gua Sha daily will help increase blood circulation to improve skin elasticity; reduce the appearance of puffiness and fine lines; refine and smooth the skin; ease facial muscle tension; stimulate a variety of acupressure points and help facial oils/moisturisers absorb better into the skin.
I kept my Gua Sha in the fridge (in its pouch, of course) and I’d recommend you do the same. How cool the Rose Quartz feels against your face is just heavenly. Now follow the nifty instructions the Gua Sha comes with (they do become second nature after a while) for around 3 minutes of cool, relaxing, massaging.
I partner my Gua Sha with Olixa’s Amazonian Clay Facial Oil which I apply before using this little pink miracle tool that fully absorbs into the skin by the end of the 3-minute massage. The question of course though, is if I notice any difference after using it. Honestly, I haven’t used it religiously enough on a day-to-day basis to determine if it makes a difference, but the process itself is so soothing and relaxing (I’m sure I sleep better after). However, I have used it after a night out (yes, go me remembering to massage my face post boozing) and I can safely say my face is significantly less bloated in the morning.

I jumped on the Jade Roller trend very quickly and went through stages of using mine every night, so when this fascinating new Gua Sha launched on Beauty at The Fragrance Shop, I was keen to see what it was all about. As well as being incredibly aesthetically pleasing to any beauty collection, Olixa’s Rose Quartz Gua Sha tool claims to do wonders for our skin in a different way to Jade Rollers, with different edges ready to target different areas of the face.
I keep mine in the fridge so that it feels extra refreshing on my face and after cleansing, and then apply Olixa’s Amazonian Cacay Oil – which to my extreme gratification matches the Gua Sha tool in it’s whimsical pinky colour.
As per the instructions, I dragged the skin on my face back and forth using this dreamy tool. The chill of the smooth marble-textured tool against my skin instantly feels refreshing. I apply quite a bit of pressure while doing it and it feels like a massage for my face. It always takes around 3-5 minutes of doing this for the oil to feel fully absorbed into my skin and it leaves it feeling ‘worked-out’ and ultimately refreshed. It’s really good for when your face is feeling a tad puffy and bloated post-night out.
As for long term results, I’m guilty of using it for 2-3 nights in a row and forgetting for another week or so. So for true results I’d need to use it every single day for a prolonged period of time. But for the times I do remember to use it, I really love it. It leaves my skin feeling the same way that my back does after a massage, and would really recommend to anyone who is thinking about trying one.
So, if you’re thinking about trying out some new skincare techniques, a Rose Quartz Gua Sha should definitely be on your list of things to get. Perfectly priced and super easy to use, you’d be mad not to try it. Shop Olixa’s Rose Quartz Gua Sha Tool right here.
