Your Sunday night round up of what’s happened in the news this week.

As always, we’ve selected five pieces of news from the previous week and summarised them into bullet points for you to easily read. What’s happening around the globe can be a lot to take in and a lot to keep up with. Which is why every week, we round it up for you! It’s not always happy news, but we will try to include one positive news story for you.

  • Voter registrations spike 236% after Stormzy publicly endorsed the Labour party. On Monday, the grime singer took to Twitter to say that he believed that Boris Johnson is a “sinister man” who has a ” long record of lying and policies that have absolutely no regard for the people that our government should be committed to helping and empowering”. According to a breakdown of performance released on the GOV.UK website, 366,000 registered to vote on that same Monday, compared to 109,000 the previous day. It’s been recorded that 150,000 of those registrations were of people aged under 25, and 114,000 were between the ages of 25-34.
  • Hillsborough families are outraged by not guilty verdict. The bereaved families from the Hillsborough disaster have responded with fury after a not guilty verdict was announced in the prosecution for manslaughter of the former South Yorkshire police chief superintendent David Duckenfield, who was on duty at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final where 96 people died. The verdict came after a campaign lasting 30 years has been made by the families affected.
  • NPower energy firm is set to cut up to 4,500 jobs amid closure plan. As part of a plan to make the company more profitable, three call centres in Houghton le Spring, Hull and Worcester are under threat of closing. There are approximately 2,500 jobs at the Houghton le Spring office, and more than 600 at each of the Hull and Worcester offices.
  • The biggest anticipated sale of the year arrived on Friday. Thousands of retailers drop their prices for Black Friday to attract customers every November. Across the globe, stores saw fights break out between customers and security guards. In the UK, The Mail Online questioned whether it was going to be a ‘bleak Friday’ after quiet starts for stores on London’s Oxford Street and Manchester’s Trafford Centre.
  • Emery sacked as Arsenal manager. Unai Emery has left the club after 18 months in charge. Arsenal have said the decision was made “due to results and performances not being at the level required”. They have not won a match in the last seven games and lost 2-1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday, making it their worst competitive run without a victory since the February of 1992.
